Welcome back, Hawks! I hope each and every one of you had a great holiday break. Semester breaks are like cheetahs – they go 60 miles an hour. I don’t want to go back to school. I love sleeping in late, having movie nights and not having to stress about schoolwork. Although I didn’t get to travel much, I still had a blast in Houston.
I’d like to start off with the highlight of everything. Being a UHCL Hawk Guide is the best choice I ever made. I met so many incoming students. I’m glad I welcomed them to UHCL. It was also great putting so much hard work into the job, and seeing others gain knowledge from it. During the freshman orientations, the OL’s performed a variety of skits. The first time around they were a little rough, but the second it was as solid as my grades were this past semester. And man, my grades were awesome.
The break gave me a chance to absorb all the knowledge I gained in the past semester. Passing a class in college is the best feeling I have ever felt. It’s like finding your true love kind of feeling. Which my true love is, of course, white chocolate chip macadamia nut cookies’ from Subway.
Even though I knew the classes were challenging, putting in the hard work paid off in the end. I was overwhelmed by how much was expected from me at the beginning of the semester, but I got used to it by the end of December. I had a new routine. Classes, homework/study, some sleep, and repeat; very different from my high school routine.
The main thing that shocked me was that in high school many of us took AP classes, and to be honest, they were nothing like college classes. That is what stunned me the most. Aside from reflecting on my past semester, I also started worrying about this coming semester. I know for a fact I will be able to handle it much better, but I still have that weird butterfly feeling in my stomach for some reason. I’m guessing it has to do with having new professors. I got so used to my old professors. I was barley getting to know them near the end.
Overall I’m really looking forward to this new year and new semester. I made a promise to myself that I would go to the Fitness Zone at least two times a week. So let’s hope I don’t let myself down. The orientation staff also had a social this past Monday, and I have to say it was amazing. We put in so much work and it was nice blowing off some steam before school started again. Everyone had a great time. Although I may not be all that good at mini golf, I’m a beast at laser tag. Well, I like to think I am. I rolled like ten times so that must mean I’m good.
Anyways, Hawks that does it for the first blog of the semester. I hope you all have a great first week of classes.
